Among the many activities we can share with our kids, there’s one that’s both fun and useful: the art of cooking.
Children love the thrill of playing with ingredients—kneading, mixing, stirring, and, of course, tasting. And nothing beats the joy and pride of enjoying something they’ve made with their own hands. Cooking together boosts confidence, sparks creativity, and makes curiosity grow. By involving children in preparing an easy dessert like the one we’re about to share, you’ll give them a chance to explore and have fun.
Our recipe of choice? Chocolate Salami—made with the finest dark chocolate, which you can purchase .
Besides chocolate, you’ll only need a few simple ingredients: sugar, biscuits, eggs, butter, and—if you wish—powdered sugar, orange juice, and some chopped nuts. You’ll also need parchment paper to shape the dessert. Chocolate salami is a no-bake recipe, but it needs to chill in the fridge for a couple of hours before serving.
Chocolate Salami Recipe
Ingredients
- 200 g dark chocolate
- 200 g plain dry biscuits
- 150 g sugar
- 150 g butter
- 2 eggs
Optional Ingredients
- 10 g orange juice
- 100 g chopped nuts (replace an equal amount of biscuits)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Get Ready: Tools & Setup
To make sure kids can be as independent as possible, set up the work surface with everything they’ll need—utensils and any prepped ingredients. For smaller children, use an unbreakable bowl and a safe kitchen knife. You’ll also need a whisk and a wooden spoon for mixing.
Method
-
Break the dark chocolate into pieces and melt it in a bain-marie. (You or an older child can handle this step, always under supervision.)
- While the chocolate cools slightly, let the kids cut softened butter into chunks. Place it in a bowl with sugar and work it with a whisk until creamy.
- Optional: add orange juice for a citrus twist, then stir in the melted chocolate while mixing continuously.
- Let kids have fun crumbling the biscuits by hand and adding them to the mix. You can also replace part of the biscuits with nuts for extra crunch.
- Once combined, lay out a sheet of parchment paper and spoon the mixture onto it.
-
Roll and shape it into a log, twisting the ends like a candy wrapper.
Chill the chocolate salami in the fridge for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving. Enjoy this rich, satisfying treat with the whole family!
